Best CBD for Cats: An Honest Buyer’s Guide

Row of unlabeled CBD dropper bottles beside a lab report, representing how to compare cat CBD products

Every brand on this page calls itself the best CBD for cats somewhere in its marketing. Rather than add another opinion, this guide gives you the checks that separate a verifiable product from a hopeful label, then applies the same standard to the well-known names, including our own product and its limits.

Quick answer

The strongest cat CBD candidates are products you can verify: clearly stated cannabinoid content, a current batch-matched certificate of analysis, ingredients appropriate for cats, and transparent third-party testing. Several brands meet parts of that standard in different ways. This guide applies the same criteria to each one, including ours.

How to judge any cat CBD product

Judge the individual product rather than the prominence of the brand. Before buying, check:

  • Current batch testing. The certificate of analysis should come from an independent laboratory and match the product or lot being sold.
  • Clearly stated cannabinoid content. The label and laboratory report should make it possible to compare what is claimed with what was tested.
  • A complete ingredient list. Look for ingredients appropriate for cats and avoid unexplained flavor or botanical blends.
  • Contaminant testing. The available report should address relevant contaminants, not cannabinoid potency alone.
  • Traceability. The company should identify the product lot and provide a way to obtain the applicable testing or ask quality questions.
  • Product-specific evidence. Claims about research should identify whether the actual product or formulation was studied, rather than relying only on general CBD literature.

Veterinary involvement, NASC membership, and domestic manufacturing may provide useful context, but none substitutes for product-level testing and evidence.

The whole checklist fits on one page. Download the printable buyer’s checklist (PDF) and use it on any product, ours included.

The brands people ask us about

We sell a cat CBD product, so read our notes on competitors knowing that. We apply the same product-testing and evidence standards to every brand, including ours.

ElleVet Sciences

ElleVet offers several cat-specific CBD+CBDA formats and has published product-specific feline research, including a peer-reviewed mobility study. Its products use a proprietary CBD+CBDA formulation.

That research is a meaningful differentiator, but the feline evidence remains limited. In the mobility study, which ElleVet funded, 26 cats enrolled and 14 completed the trial; the authors identified the high dropout rate as an important limitation. Buyers should consider both the existence of product-specific research and the strength and limitations of the individual study.

Innovet Pet

Innovet Pet has a broad product catalog and provides a dedicated certificate-of-analysis page with reports for several hemp products. As with every brand, confirm that the report matches the exact product and lot you are considering.

Honest Paws

Honest Paws currently lists a cat-specific full-spectrum CBD oil and has a broader range of products for dogs. Its cat oil page provides a complete ingredient list and describes third-party testing. As with any product, open the applicable certificate of analysis and confirm that it matches the current item or lot.

HolistaPet

HolistaPet lists CBD oil for dogs and cats, cat-specific treats and calming chews, and provides a centralized certificate-of-analysis page. Review the report for the exact product and lot, along with the complete ingredient list. Catalog size and customer-review volume are not substitutes for product-specific testing.

Ours: Dr. Fossum’s feline broad-spectrum hemp extract

Our cat broad-spectrum hemp extract was formulated by a veterinary team led by Dr. Terry Fossum. We chose a liquid format because it can be mixed into familiar food and offers more measurement flexibility than a fixed-unit product. The ingredients and batch certificate of analysis are publicly available, and the formula contains no added essential oils or flavor oils.

Our limits matter too. We are smaller than the other companies reviewed here, and we have not conducted a proprietary feline trial of this product. The published feline research cited in our educational materials studied other CBD formulations, not ours.

So which one is best?

There is no single best product for every cat. The strongest choice is one whose format your cat accepts and whose ingredients, cannabinoid content, and current testing you can verify.

Among the brands reviewed here, ElleVet is the one for which we identified published, product-specific feline research during this review. That is a legitimate advantage, although the current feline evidence remains limited and the available mobility study had a substantial dropout rate.

Our product may appeal to buyers who prefer a simple, cat-specific broad-spectrum liquid with public testing and veterinarian-led formulation. We cannot claim that it is better studied or inherently superior to the other products in this guide.

Frequently asked questions

What CBD do vets recommend for cats?

There is no single cat CBD brand that veterinarians recommend as a group. A veterinarian who is willing to discuss CBD can review the exact product, its ingredients, current laboratory report, and your cat’s medication list. A “vet recommended” marketing statement should not replace product-level evidence.

Is ElleVet good for cats?

ElleVet offers cat-specific CBD+CBDA products and has published product-specific feline research. The available feline mobility study was small and had a high dropout rate, so its findings should be viewed as promising but preliminary. Review the ingredients and current testing for the individual product just as you would with any other brand.

Are cheap cat CBD products on big marketplaces okay?

Price and marketplace placement do not establish product quality. Independent testing has found label inaccuracies across commercial pet hemp products, so evaluate every product by its stated cannabinoid content, complete ingredients, and current batch testing. A listing without that information is difficult to assess, regardless of price.
